Introducing the Love-A-Lot Quilt

A new, modern heart quilt pattern

The perfect pattern for Valentine's Day or whenever you want to create a patchwork quilt for someone you love.

A big-hearted pattern for modern quilters

The Love-A-Lot Quilt pattern is a beginner friendly, fat quarter friendly and scrap friendly patchwork quilt pattern with three size options.

I hope you’ll love this quilt pattern as much as I do!

It’s taken me a long time to bring this design from a sketch to a digital quilt pattern, available to buy.

It started with my own heart health. Long story short, I had a pacemaker fitted to my heart and I’ve been well again ever since. But having a heart that doesn’t work properly on its own did shake my confidence. For a while after surgery, I wasn’t sure about a lot of things, including this quilt design.

It felt right that a quilt pattern designer with a pacemaker should create a heart quilt pattern! I just wasn’t sure if Love-A-Lot was the one. But, like all true loves, I couldn’t stop thinking about the design. The hardest part was finding a name. Think of just about any name you can for a heart quilt and there’s already a hashtag for it, guaranteed.

Once I reached way back into my 1980s childhood memories and remembered the Care Bears, the Love-A-Lot Quilt was born.

Now we’re here together, it feels like our love story was meant to be.

But enough about romance, let’s talk quilts!

Love-A-Lot is the kind of quilt pattern that’s really quick and easy to create. It’s made with simple, big bocks which are traditionally pieced and repeat to create a bold design. Unlike a lot of heart quilt patterns, there are no triangles in a Love-A-Lot Quilt. That makes it the perfect skill level for a beginner quilter as well as for quilters with more experience (who need a break from HSTs!).

The pattern includes instructions to make the Love-A-Lot Quilt in three size options:

  • baby size, which would be adorable as a baby-shower or christening gift

  • throw size, which is generous enough for two to share on the sofa or for a romantic picnic

  • queen size, which would be an incredible handmade gift to celebrate an engagement, wedding, partnership or anniversary.

The Love-A-Lot Quilt, but even easier

If the Love-A-Lot Quilt pattern is speaking your love language but you’re not sure where to start, don’t worry. With the help of some friends, we’ve done all the hard work for you. It’s super-simple to bring your colour and fabric ideas to life:

  • use the colouring page included in the pattern - make a few copies, get out your colouring pens and have fun planning your favourite combinations.

  • the pattern tells you exactly how to make the Love-A-Lot Quilt with scraps - it even includes options for scrappy quilt versions with either two or nine fabrics per block. The perfect way to express your love for your most precious fabric scraps!

  • make the most of the free digital colouring page I’ve created with PreQuilt. The app helps you plan how your Love-A-Lot Quilt will look, before you start sewing. It is pre-programmed with all the major brands of quilting cotton solids, making it really easy to visualise your finished quilt. If you prefer to sew with prints, you can still use the app to plan your colours and layout. It's such a clever tool and completely free to use.

  • if time if tight or if choosing fabric colour palettes is not your forte, Anna The Hackney Quilter has curated three gorgeous, throw-size fabric bundles. All you have to do is decide which one is your favourite!
